I went to a seminar organized by Omniture and its China partner Shanghai Virtual Communication on Jun 11 2009. The venue is very nice : the second floor of Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World(上海新世界丽笙大酒店). I learned from Sidney Song of China Web Analytics about this great event. The seminar offered an introductory view at Omniture’s #1 analytics tool - SiteCatalyst.

Suraj Giri, GM of Shanghai Virtual Communication, who speaks excellent Chinese, introduced the speaker - Darryl Su. Darryl is the Sales Executive of China and Taiwan at Omniture.

Darryl shared a 5- step process adapted by Omniture to continuously manage a website better:
- Define Goals
- Measure
- Report
- Optimization
- Innovation
The most import thing is to clarify your business goal, every step you take should be depending on your goals, no blind action! Steps 2 & 3 can be done with SiteCatalyst so that website owners can spend more time at the data. After users learn how to interpret the data from various reports SiteCatalyst provides, they can aim at a higher goal to optimize the website and introduce creative ideas. According to Darryl, Omniture makes life a lot more easier. : )
I talked to a few attendees during the coffee break, most of which are fairly new to Omniture SiteCatalyst and some are hesitate to transfer from GA to Omniture. SiteCatalyst is more complex while the return is that it provides real-time and valuable customer behavior patterns and more accurate segments based on any criteria. In addition, SiteCatalyst is just too expensive for start-ups in China. Good news from Darryl that Omniture is now aiming to provide some packages & services for small & medium enterprises.

I found that some other tools by Omniture are very interesting. For example, Omniture Recommendations is a tool co-developed by Omniture and Amazon. It recommends books according visitors’ browsing & buying history. I am also impressed by Omniure’s fast respond to the trend in the Web by adding “twitter alert” feature. With this feature, you can now be informed whenever a tweet contains your company name or whatever text you want to monitor.
In a word, this is a very good opportunity to network with people of similar interest. We are planning to organize similar gathering in the near future. Hope to see you soon!

Hi, elinweng
Omniture do has some training both in Beijing and Shanghai, but it’s not free(indeed it’s very expensive! I don’t know who attended this kind of training and really curious about the details).
The seminar which i attended is the only free one i know in SH so far.
While I think there’s more activities in BJ because Omniture has an office there.

thanks for share. i do wonder what kind of clients they have in China, too. (i think the training you referred is designed for the clients who already purchased Omniture’s software)

Yes, agree with you, if a company pay such an expensive tools, they are likely to attend the training for advanced use. Although it is a great tool and has it’s own advantages,
many reasons cause Omniture’s small market share in China now. It’s too much expensive and probably not support Chinese well, so I think a Chinese-language website may not go for it.
Thanks for your reply:)
