I got to know about Beijing Web Analytics Wednesday (WAW) from Elliott Ng, Marketing VP at Uptake who went to a meet-up in March. He shared with me his great experience in this event, and “stood up” to sponsor the Shanghai WAW .
Beijing WAW was initiated and organized by Florian Pihs, blogger behind Web Analytics in China, web analytics evangelist in China, in early 2008. (I wished I knew about it earlier. ) The meet-up has grew from a small gathering into a 50-60 persons’ monthly networking event. The speakers’ profiles range from top analytics packages providers’ like Omniture, Google Analytics to marketing executives (users) from companies like Qunar.com & Daqi.com; topics are various from analytics case study, panel discussion to interactive marketing. Sidney Song translated all the event posts in Chinese here.
UpTake, the travel search company, is happy to organize Web Analytics Wednesday in Shanghai as we have a small search marketing team in the city. As a marketing member of an Interent company, I’ve been a Web Analytics user for more than 2 years. But I feel the need to learn from experts of field becomes more urgent as our site grows faster. And WAW would be a great opportunities for people like us to networking and learning from each other.
Tangos from China Web 2.o Review blogged about a WAW Beijing event Event Report: The State of Web Analytics Industry in China last Dec. He wrote:
All the panelist agreed that the web analytics industry in China is still in its very early stage.
…
But they all believe that the industry is in very high growth.
Earlier, Mathew McDougall, Group CEO of SinoTech wrote a great article about the state of China web analytics in late 2007. He noticed “Compared to the West, web analytics have a low take up in China”. And in answering the question: “Is it entirely due to a lack of demand for better measurement?” He found out:
- The report that there was no need for sophisticated tools and Chinese website owners were simply behind the West, and Chinese advertisers/web publishers were not interested in measuring performance is not true.
- Web analytics tools are not available there to meet site owners and 4A advertising agents specific needs.
- The traditional web analytics tools in West don’t fit the need of fast growing social networking sites - Web 2.0 sites in China.
He believed web anatlyics techonology development in China will leap directly into 2.0 generation with which both qualitative and quantitative information can be provided to support decision.
SinoTech COO Mike Pereira is going to speak on July’s Beijing WAW. I am looking forward to reading Florian’s summary of the topic about Web Analytics Getting Social.
Web analytics is a fast growing industry in China. We want to help web analytics professionals to network with each other and keep up with the trend of web anatlyics development in China.
So, we are planning to have the first WAW Shanghai will be happening in July 2009. The details will be updated as we confirm the speakers and meeting venue.
Dear readers, please let us know what kind of web analytics topic you are most insterested in!
